Your data in Revere
You should care what happens to your data and how it’s stored and used. This article answers some of the most common questions related to data in Revere. If you have any more questions, you can always reach out at support@revereapp.com.
What data is collected and how is it used?
Your notes — The data you enter in Revere (names, notes, etc.) is not used for anything, it’s only stored and showed to you when you use Revere.
Your email — We have your email address from sign-up which is used for login. It can also be used to send emails during customer support if you reach out to us.
Anonymous device ID — Your device is given a random, anonymous ID # that’s pooled with other Revere users to show total usage. This helps us understand how Revere is growing and planning for it.
Anonymous events — Some features Revere count actions, e.g. “Button tap—Reminder completed” for example. These do not contain any data and are not linked to your account. This helps us understand which features are most popular and useful.
How is my data secured?
All Revere data is stored in the cloud on professionally-managed infrastructure, which means it's always securely encrypted and backed-up. Data is fully encrypted at all times when being transmitted and when stored. Revere uses Google Firebase, which is built on Google Cloud Platform (aka. Google’s version of Amazon AWS), and we actively configure it to collect as little data as possible.
Why is an account necessary?
Creating an account offers many benefits we believe benefit users, particularly around the fact that information not backed up creates more headaches over time.
Here are some benefits:
Lost phones — Even the most diligent of us have lost or had phones stolen. In 2016, 70 million phones in the US were lost and only 7% recovered. If your Revere notes were stored only on your phone, they’d all disappear with it. An account allows them to be backed-up in the cloud and easily recovered.
You’ll buy a new phone — Revere is made to store your notes over a lifetime, over which time you’ll have many phones. Having an account where your notes are stored makes getting your notes into a new phone is as easy as logging in.
Multiple devices — Revere works across multiple devices. You can add a note on your iPhone and see it on your iPad or Mac automatically. This is only possible with accounts.
Can someone access Revere if I lose my phone?
Revere uses the iPhone’s built-in encryption via the passcode (or Face/Touch ID). No one can access Revere without your passcode should you lose your phone. If someone knows your passcode, you can add another layer of security with Face/Touch ID locking inside Revere (note: this requires the Revere Premium subscription).
Exporting my data
Your data can be exported at any time from Revere’s settings screen. It creates a thoughtfully formatted CSV file so it’s easier to use your data elsewhere.
Deleting my data
Your entire account can be deleted anytime from Revere settings screen. All your data is permanently deleted.
